Benefit rates for bereaved parents

Two parents are paid a benefit of NIS 9,241.02 (as of Jan 01, 2025)).

A single parent is paid a benefit at the rate of 80% of the benefit paid to two parents – NIS 7,392.82 (as of Jan 01, 2025).

Parents recognized as bereaved of more than one child will receive a benefit at the rate of 200% (according to their family status).

Benefit increment for the victim's siblings

• For one brother or sister – 20% of the benefit paid to two parents – NIS 1,848.2 (as of Jan 01, 2025).
• For each additional brother or sister – 11% of the benefit paid to two parents – NIS 1,016.51 (as of Jan 01, 2025).

Benefit amounts for bereaved parents:

Increment to the benefit for bereaved parents for siblings of the victim under the age of 3

Bereaved parents who have in their custody a brother or sister of the victim under the age of 3 are entitled to an increment to the monthly benefit of NIS 2,500, provided that the sibling was born within five years of the date of the victim's death.

The increment is paid as part of an amendment to the law that came into force on February 1, 2026.

Benefit for a widowed bereaved parent

A bereaved parent who is widowed and has reached the mandatory retirement age (67 for men and women) will receive an increment to fund special needs of NIS 1,714 per month.

When parents receive the benefit for two bereaved parents and one of them dies, the widowed bereaved parent will continue to receive the benefit for two bereaved parents for the three months after the death. After that, the benefit is reduced to the single-parent benefit. When the bereaved parent reaches the mandatory retirement age (67), the increment to fund special needs will be paid automatically.

Lack-of-income benefit for bereaved parents

Bereaved parents whose income from any source – excluding the old-age pension, a survivors' pension up to the amount of the old-age pension, child allowance, periodic payments received as compensation for damage to health caused by Nazi persecution, a general disability pension from National Insurance, a disability pension paid under the Disabled Persons Law (except special payments) and a pension paid under the Fallen Soldiers' Families Law – does not exceed NIS 749.57 per month for a couple or NIS 600 per month for a single parent, are entitled to an increment to the monthly benefit.

• Increment amount for two parents: NIS 1,265.
• Increment amount for a single parent: NIS 1,582.

Benefit for a bereaved parent married to a spouse who is not bereaved

• If the bereaved parent dies, the spouse who is not bereaved will be paid the benefit for two bereaved parents – NIS 9,241.02 (as of Jan 01, 2025) – for 3 months (from the month after the month of death).
• If the deceased bereaved parent was married to the non-bereaved spouse for at least 3 years before their death, the spouse will be entitled to a benefit equal to the difference between their income and the single-parent benefit – NIS 7,392.82 (as of Jan 01, 2025) – provided they have not remarried.
• If the spouse's income (from any source) reaches or exceeds the single-parent benefit, no benefit will be paid to the spouse.
